Three is the magic number or is it four? I always love this time of year with you all having a chance to compete in club competitions and especially your club championships, last week saw three of my pupils win that prestigious title. Julie Knewbold won the Royal Winchester Ladies Club Championships, Julie and I have worked together for a few years with a goal from 16 handicap to single figures, Julies goal has always been Ladies Club Champion.Terry Greenough won the Southampton Men’s Club Championships, Terry and I worked to reduce his handicap from 3 to scratch, this tops off an amazing journey for us both. Derek Blundell won the Southampton Men’s Seniors Club Championship, Derek had two lessons this summer with me, we got everything in a simple order and he’s back in the winner’s circle.

I only ever judge my ability as a coach on your enjoyment, progression and success in the game. Thank you all so much for trusting me with your golf, I’m so proud of you all for all your hard work, rest, enjoy and now on to the defence of your titles.
And then just when you think it couldn’t get any better, I not only get to celebrate as a coach but also as a father with my youngest son George winning the Paultons Mens Club Championships for the second time in three seasons. Last year he lost in a play-off and 2017 he won, 2016 he also came runner-up and in 2015 my eldest son Tom won the Championships, it’s been some five seasons we’ve had as a family.

Other fantastic results include Hannah Dymott winning the Rowlands Castle Girls overall trophy and Joe Wheeler winning the Boys Nett Trophy, really well done to you both.
Hannah’s success over the past two weeks has seen her handicap reduced to 10. She has also qualified to play in the Daily telegraph Junior Championships and been selected for the Hampshire Girls squad to compete in County Match week. Outstanding and so well deserved!

1 gap, 2 gap, 3 gap, FORE! |
How confident are you hitting your long irons? The lack of forgiveness can lead to inconsistent strikes and less distance. This is when filling the gaps at the top end of your bag with utility irons or hybrids could be the smartest decision you ever make – but which is right for you? |
Titleist’s brand-new utility irons and hybrids are really special, and you’ll be able to get your hands on them through us in no time at all. Why do we like them so much? Well, they are seriously easy to hit and offer unbeatable performance, but there are some things you should know… |
U-500 and U-510 utility irons Quite simply, these offer more distance than a standard iron but less spin than a hybrid. Both come loaded with tungsten for incredible forgiveness, with the U-500 offering workability and precise distances whilst the U-510 boasts a high launch and increased carry from a larger head.
|
TS2 and TS3 hybrids It's time to stop thinking of these hybrids as rescue clubs and begin referring to them as scoring clubs. Both offer plenty of distance and an easy to hit nature, with the TS2 providing a higher launch from a wider head and the TS3 giving us more adjustability in an iron-like profile. |
|
So, which route should you go down? Hybrid or utility iron? Let’s give all four a go in a custom fitting session and find the one that offers you the best performance. |
