T.E.A.M - Together, Everyone, Achieves, More.
Our brilliant ladies have secured a place in the Grand Finals of the Annodata Team Championships to be held at Montecastillo Golf resort in Spain in November, where the last four men’s and women’s team compete to become champions in the UK’s largest golf amateur club team event. Lee was not sure at the start of the year if they could field a team as they had a very busy golfing calendar, sheer hard work and dedication from all saw us take our place. The journey began back in April with the first away match against Gosport & Stokes Bay, our ladies team won 3-2, and followed this with the string of outstanding victories below. Cams 4-1 Stoneham 3 ½ - 1 ½ Corhampton 3-2 West Wilts 4 ½- ½ Worthing 4-1 Perranporth 3-2 Their last match was by far the toughest as you would expect. It is a great achievement for any side to reach the 7th round and it could have gone either way with two matches being decided on the 18th. It all came down to Pat Jenkins stepping up to hole a putt on 18 to win, Pat was up to this challenge and sent her ball home, emotional scenes followed and another Piece of Lee On The Solent history was written.
Team Captain Jackie Urry played a major part all along and even down to the last match used the tactics of not telling the team this was the match to get to Spain, keeping the pressure from the Team she did an outstanding job. Pat overwhelmed with emotion broke down in tears, Pat it shows how much this all meant to the team to have powered their way into the last four out of 178 ladies clubs. The team will be missing two key players in Spain, Karen Hirst and Chris Round, both fantastic match-play competitors and served the team so well in all the matches they’ve played. The team is focused, competitive and has proven to deliver under pressure. Enjoy the finals Ladies, we are so very proud of you felicitaciones superestrellas! |
