What is a golf club come to think about about it what is a club? One definition is “An association dedicated to a particular interest or activity” in these tough times for us all I’d say it's so much more, in a way it's like a family, I have seen this more now than ever from you with the support for myself and your golf club, it really does help. When you turn on the television and you hear the sad news and stories it is a huge worry to us all, they do like to tell us about the few that have little respect, when I have gone out to shop though I see many great people, respecting and helping each other, a Great Britain that again has come together, just yesterday my neighbour who is a bit of a wild boy I may add, knocking my door standing way back and asking if I need any groceries. I didn’t send out my email last week as was really in two minds whether it was the right thing morally to do in a world that needs our support right now; Do you really want to learn about the new driver or golf ball right now. I do feel we have a responsibility though to keep the world moving and I’d like to send my email out with stories and great memories we all have in golf.
I want to begin with the really sad news that two of our members have passed away. George Mason and Rod Howes, George who played along with his brother Malc at Lee for years, such a popular man and friend to many at the club and a member of Vets section our thoughts are with George’s family at this sad time. Rod was one of the first members I met at Lee he came in and set me a challenge of naming the PGA Professional in the photos taken back on a box brownie camera I knew straight away it was Alan Bridge from Dibden Golf Centre, I grew up in the New Forest and Alan was the local club Professional, He’s a man I’ve always admired and if you’ve met him you’ll know why. Rod and I shared some great stories about both knowing this fine man, some great moves you both have also if I can say so. Rod was also a massive supporter of Junior golf and a previous Junior Organiser at Lee, he helped in the development of so many great players, golfers like our Harry who has now turned Professional and will have a wonderful career. Thank you Rod I feel so lucky too of met you.
