I grew up playing golf as a junior at Bramshaw Golf Club and had so many great days there playing golf, we would play from first light till dark, in groups or even alone just to play golf. It was rare back then that any juniors had new clubs, we all had sets of irons way to stiff and all dreamed of a TaylorMade Tour Gold driver, now please don’t feel sorry for me as its about time I came clean. I was playing on the Manor Course and tee’d up an semi good condition Titleist Balata ball AKA “A Billy”, I’ve hit it slightly right and its just rolled off the fairway, alongside the 11 hole. I found it no problem and played my second shot, I then noticed gleaming at me in the grass a brand new Ultra Competition, wow these had just come out, it was the ball John Daly was using, I’d never seen one before. I had a good look around for about a second and it was mine, I picked my bag up and had that excited swagger to my walk, when from the trees of the 11th hole comes a man, well a Goliath of a man asking if I’d seen a ball, I asked what it was, thinking “oh please don’t be the one I’ve got in my pocket” he replied its one of those new Ultra Competitions! So what did I do? Did I do the honourable thing and give his ball back? I can only put my next decision down to being embarrassed and more importantly the sheer fear that the Bill Beaumont look alike would kill me, I said "noooo I haven’t seen it!" And then did the second most honourable thing I could of done and helped him look for it for 5 minutes, right hand in right pocket, I’m not proud and if you do know this man please tell him it was me, I think I’ve got an Ultra Competition or two in the range balls he can have back... Stay safe everyone, Kevin.
