The date of Friday, 11 September was quite a momentous day for HLG as it was the date of our first PLD (Post Lockdown) and in fact first competition in 2020!

A total of 61 players took on the well laid out course at Petersfield in perfect autumnal conditions and judging from the smiles, all seemed to mostly enjoy their round.

One of the 61 players was our very own Barbara Hobbs who had an outstanding performance to claim third place, we are so proud of you Barbara what a fantastic achievement in a really strong field.

New member's event

Fantastic to have six of our new members join us on Saturday for a short game class on the Academy Course.

A short game masterclass with Sam on pitching, covering club selection, bounce, technique, distance control and much more.

Along with escaping the rough and finding your default distance with myself, a brilliant afternoon enjoyed by all and really showing the benefit of our Academy Course for practice.

Juniors roll up to meet new friends

This Sunday saw the first of our Junior Championship course roll up, 15 of our members took to the course in safely sized groups.

Before teeing off, the mums, dads and juniors all got to meet our Junior Welfare Officer Kate Dymott who has been working hard with us to complete our England Golf Safegolf accreditation, thank you, Kate.
Juniors of all ages played a varied number of holes, with Hampshire Girls player Abbie Dymott starting us off and playing with Ellis Grant a new member with a fantastic game and completing his first card for his handicap.

Our younger golfers played 4, 6 or 9 holes in a fun game and it was smiles all round, one of the amazing highlights was Jake Binney aged only 5 making a gross 7 on our par-5 5th hole, wow Jake you really got those guns out, young man.

Tim's fitted for a win

Chris Courtneidge was with us to help advise the optimum specs for our customers.

Tim is the proud owner of 2 Vokey SM8 wedges a 54.14 F Grind and a 58.14 K grind both in chrome finish, the heads look amazing against the Tensei AV Red AM2 shafts Tim.

Our County Heroes Jason and his team

Last weekend saw myself as part of the Hampshire Boys Coaching Team on selection days, Saturday with PGA Professional Chris Farr with the under 14's at Sandford Springs and Sunday at home at Lee with PGA Professional Kev Saunders and the Under 16's.

We knew the weather was coming in bad and were prepared to postpone both events, Sandford Springs were brilliant and in heavy rain allowed us to perform the skills tests we needed and play the two driest 9's of their 3, we got the job done in tough conditions the greens half-flooded but the same for all.

Waking up on Sunday with much the same conditions, I was excited to see how all the hard work Jason and the team had done would perform, the results were outstanding.

It poured down and the only water on one of the greens was the size of a cup at the front of the 14th, Jase, thank you so much we completed our day and picked a really strong team for the coming season.

The boys were so grateful and asked me to send their thanks to you and the team also, they loved the course and have asked when Junior Champs are being held next year.

Golf on Tour

Tyrrell Hatton sealed a fantastic victory at Wentworth in the BMW PGA Championship over the weekend.

The Englishman played some outstanding golf from tee-to-green, setting up birdie chances aplenty thanks to a near-perfect ball-striking display. Finding the right part of the green was key to Hatton's success over the weekend, which saw him enter the World's Top 10 for the very first time.

One of the slightly more unusual talking points from the weekend was Hatton's clothing; more specifically his hoodies. It seems to have people split and, whilst it won't be to everyone's taste, we'd love to hear your thoughts - send us a message below.
